WEIGELA

Bristol Ruby Weigela (Weigela florida 'Bristol Ruby'): Bristol Ruby Weigela has red flowers in late spring and dark green foliage throughout the summer. Grow as a hedge or specimen plant in full sun or part shade. (5'Hx5'W) Zone 4

Java Red Weigela (Weigela florida 'Java Red'): Java Red Weigela is a popular plant that has purple-green foliage and red trumpet shaped flowers. Grow in full sun to part shade. (5'Hx5'W) Zone 4

Minuet Weigela (Weigela florida 'Minuet'): This is a very compact form of weigela that has green leaves and pink flowers in late spring. Use as a small hedge or foundation plant and plant in full sun to part shade. (3'Hx3'W) Zone 4

Red Prince Weigela (Weigela florida 'Red Prince'): Red Prince Weigela has red flowers in the spring and dark green foliage throughout the growing season. Plant in full sun to part shade. (5'Hx5'W) Zone 4

Samba Weigela (Weigela florida 'Samba'): This is a compact shrub with a dense growth habit. Its foliage is green with a tinge of purple on the leaf margins. Flower color is pink with a yellow center. Plant in full sun to part shade. (3'Hx3'W) Zone 4

Tango Weigela (Weigela florida 'Tango'): Tango Weigela is another good dwarf weigela. It has purple leaves and red flowers. Plant in full sun to part shade. (2'Hx3'W) Zone 4

Wine & Roses (Weigela florida 'Wine & Roses'): This shrub has burgundy colored leaves bright pink flowers in the springtime. It is often used as a specimen plant. Plant in full sun to part shade. (5'Hx5'W) Zone 4

Variegated Weigela (Weigela florida 'Variegata'): Variegated Weigela's leaves have a white margin and pink flowers in the spring. It is a very popular plant that prefers to be planted in full sun to part shade. (5'Hx5'W) Zone 4

Victoria Weigela (Weigela florida 'Victoria'): This Weigela is similar to Bristol Ruby Weigela with the major difference being its pink flowers as compared to the red flowers of Bristol Ruby. Plant in full sun to part shade. (5'Hx5'W) Zone 4

WILLOW

Dappled Willow (Salix 'Hakuru Nishiki'): Dappled Willow emerges with variegated pink and white leaves in early spring that eventually turns to green. Do not plant in very hot exposures and prune in late winter improve leaf color. (5'Hx5'W) Zone 6

Dwarf Blue Arctic Willow (Salix purperea 'Nana'): Blue Arctic Willow is a very fast growing shrub and is often used as a hedge plant or screen. It is often used in areas that have wet soil and is very cold hardy. Plant in full sun to part shade. (5'Hx5'W) Zone 3

YEW

Yews are a group of shrubs that grow well in many areas of Utah. They tolerate shade and take hedging very well. Although yews will tolerate some sun, do not plant them on south or very hot exposures.

Repandens Yew (Taxus baccata): Repandens Yew is often used as a hedge or foundation plant. It cannot be planted in colder areas of Utah, but it does fine along the Wasatch front. Grow Repandens Yew in full shade to part sun. (3'Hx8'W) Zone 5

Emerald Spreader Yew (Taxus cuspidata 'Monloo'): Emerald Spreader Yew has a similar growth habit to Repandens Yew. The main difference in them being Emerald Spreader has smaller needles and is more cold hardy. Plant in partial to full shade. (8'Hx3'W) Zone 4

Dark Green Spreader Yew (Taxus cuspidata 'Dark Green Spreader'): This is a very popular yew and is often used as a hedge or foundation plant. Do not plant in hot areas of the landscape. (4'Hx5'W) Zone 4

Densiformis Yew (Taxus x media 'Densiformis'): Densiformis Yew is very similar to Dark Green Spreader in size and looks. It takes hedging very well. Do not plant in hot areas of the landscape. (4'Hx4'W) Zone 4

Hicks Yew (Taxus x media 'Hicksii'): Hicks Yew has an upright growth habit and is often used as a focal point in shady areas of the landscape. Do not plant in full sun. (12'Hx4'W) Zone 4

YUCCA

Gold Sword Yucca (Yucca filamentosa 'variegata'): Gold Sword Yucca is often used in the landscape as a focal point. It has yellow and green variegated leaves and large spikes of white flowers in mid-summer. It is very drought tolerant, prefers to be planted in full sun, and survives much neglect. (4'Hx4'W) Zone 4

Ivory Tower Yucca (Yucca filamentosa 'Adams Needle'): Ivory tower Yucca is very similar to Gold Sword Yucca but its leaves are straight green and is also great for use in low water landscapes. Plant in full sun. (4'Hx4'W) Zone 4
