PYRACANTHA
Pyracantha (Pyracantha coccinea):
Pyracantha is a very tough shrub that, once established,
is drought tolerant, has white flowers in the spring
and is one of the few broadleaf evergreen shrubs that
tolerates full sun. Pyracantha must be pruned regularly
to keep it under control and also has thorns. (10'Hx10'W)

SCOTCH
BROOM
Scotch Broom (Cytisus spp.): Scotch Broom is
one of the most beautiful spring flowering plants. Its
flower colors include yellow, which is the most common,
pink and red. This shrub is very drought tolerant once
established and after flowering has a southwestern or
desert look. Scotch Broom will not do well in colder
areas of Utah but does well along the Wasatch Front.

SERVICEBERRY
Regent Serviceberry (Amelanchier anlifolia 'Regent'):
Regent Serviceberry is oftentimes used specifically
for fruit production. It has very nice white flowers
in the spring and may go red in the fall. (6'Hx6'W)

Serviceberry (Amelanchier anlifolia): This is
a native shrub that has pretty white flowers in the
spring and tasty berries later in the year. Use serviceberry
in natural settings and grow in full sun to part shade.

Siberian Peashrub (Caragana arborescens): Siberian
Peashrub is a very cold hardy plant, and it is also
very tolerant of poor soil and drought. It has nice,
yellow flowers in the spring and prefers full sun to

BUSH
Snowball Bush (Viburnum opolus 'Sterile'): Snowball
Bush has been planted and enjoyed in Utah for many years.
Its spring flowers are its biggest attraction, and they
are not only beautiful but also very fragrant. Snowball
Bush is fruitless and pest resistant. Plant in full

SPIRAEA
Spiraeas are a very diverse group of shrubs. Most varieties
will grow to three feet tall with a few of the larger
varieties reaching five feet. Flower color is either
pink or white and they prefer full sun to part shade.
Albaflora Spiraea (Spiraea x bumalda 'Albaflora'):
Alba Flora Spiraea is a very beautiful spiraea. It is
almost a carbon copy of Anthony Waterer but has white
flowers. This spiraea works well when planted in combination
with Anthony Waterer or on its own. Plant in full sun
to part shade (3'Hx3'W) Zone 4
Anthony Waterer Spiraea (Spiraea x bumalda 'Anthony
Waterer'): Anthony Waterer Spiraea is the most common
spiraea sold in Utah. It has masses of pink flowers
in late spring or early summer and will re-bloom if
the old flower heads are pruned out. Plant in full sun

Daphne Spiraea (Spiraea x japonica 'Alpine'):
Daphne Spiraea has light-pink flowers in late spring
and works well as a ground cover. Plant in full sun
to part shade (2'Hx5'W) Zone 4
Dolchica Spiraea (Spiraea x bumalda 'Dolchica'):
Dolchica Spiraea is similar to Anthony Waterer Spiraea,
with the main difference is that its new growth emerges
a maroon color and then turns green. Plant in full sun
to part shade (3'Hx3'W) Zone 4
Froebeli's Spiraea (Spiraea x bumalda 'Froebelii'):
Froebeli's Spiraea is similar to Anthony Waterer Spiraea.
The main difference is it has darker flowers. Plant
in full sun to part shade (3'Hx3'W) Zone 5
Gold Flame Spiraea (Spiraea x bumalda 'Gold Flame'):
Gold Flame Spiraea's new growth emerges a brilliant
red color that then turns to golden yellow at maturity.
Flower color is rose red and Gold Flame Spiraea also
turns red in the fall. Do not plant on south sides of
buildings or in other hot exposures. (3'Hx3'W) Zone

Gold Mound Spiraea (Spiraea x bumalda 'Gold Mound'):
Gold Mound Spiraea is similar to Gold Flame Spiraea.
Its new growth emerges yellow and it turns red in the
fall. Do not plant on south sides of buildings or in

Lime Mound Spiraea (Spiraea x bumalda 'Monhub'):
Lime Mound Spiraea is a very popular variety. Its new
foliage emerges bright yellow and then turns lime green,
and in the fall foliage turns dark red to almost purple.

Little Princess Spiraea (Spiraea x japonica 'Little
Princess'): Little Princess Spiraea is often used
as a border or foundation plant. It has light pink flowers
in late spring and is a very popular spiraea. Plant

Magic Carpet Spiraea (Spiraea x bumalda 'Magic Carpet'):
Magic Carpet Spiraea is one of the smallest varieties
of spiraea when fully grown. Its new growth emerges
orange-red and then turns green. It also has masses
of pink flowers in late spring. Plant in full sun to

Mellow Yellow Spiraea (Spiraea thumbergii 'Ogon'):
Mellow Yellow Spiraea has very bright yellow foliage
and has white flowers in the spring. It needs regular
pruning to maintain its shape and vigor. Use as a foundation
or border plant and do not plant on the south side of
buildings or in other places that have lots of hot sun.

Neon Flash Spiraea (Spiraea x japonica 'Neon Flash'):
Neon Flash Spiraea is similar to Anthony Waterer Spiraea
but it has darker flowers and its new growth emerges

Norman Spiraea (Spiraea x bumalda 'Norman'): Norman
Spiraea is similar to Magic Carpet Spiraea but its flowers
are lighter pink. Norman Spiraea works well in flowerbeds
or in rock gardens and prefers to be planted in full

Shirobana Spiraea (Spiraea x japonica 'Shirobana'):
Shirobana Spiraea is a popular spiraea that is similar
to Little Princess. It grows slightly taller and bears
both white and pink flowers in late spring and does

Snowmound Spiraea (Spiraea nipponica 'tosaensis'):
Snowmound Spiraea is a very popular white flowering
spiraea. It flowers in late spring and is often used
as a foundation or a border plant. Snowmound Spiraea
holds its shape better than other white flowering forms.

Tri-color Spiraea (Spiraea x bumalda 'Tri-color'):
Norman Spiraea is similar to Anthony Waterer but its
flowers have three different colors: light pink, dark
pink and maroon. Plant in full sun to part shade. (3'Hx3'W)

Vanhouttei Spiraea (Spiraea x vanhouttei): Vanhouttei
Spiraea is often confused with Bridal Wreath Spiraea.
It has a weeping form and is covered with white flowers
in mid spring. The foliage is green and turns red in
the fall. This spiraea works well in less formal and
