Concolor Fir
Abies concolor
COMMON
NAMES: White Fir, Concolor Fir
DESCRIPTION: White Fir reaches a height of 50' and
a width of 15' to 30' in the landscape. Both blue and green
varities are available.
NATIVE RANGE: Native to much of the southern Rocky
Mountains at elevations between 5,500' and 11,000'.
CULTURE: White fir is the best adapted fir tree to the
hot and dry conditions of the lower elevations. It likes a
well drained soil and does require some supplemental irrigation.
It is adapted to acid or somewhat alkaline soil. Concolor
Fir will grow 1 ' to 18" a year.
DISEASE
AND PESTS: White Fir is disease resistant.
LANDSCAPE VALUE: White Fir can develop into a large
tree that may not be suitable to smaller lots. Blue varieties
can sometimes be mistaken for Blue Spruce. This beautiful
tree is best used in large yards, parks and golf courses.
